Update summary as of July 14, 2020:
Items 1, 2, and 3 established.
This is a list of recommended government and corporate policies as well as societal actions, which seem to me would benefit persons as individuals and improve the general welfare.
- Remove cannabis from Schedule I. Cannabis use may be part of a larger health related discussion, but its illegality only serves to incarcerate (mostly) more black people. Although few people would relish the idea of stinky marijuana smoke on every street corner, public smoking behavior can be regulated and controlled just as with tobacco. There also are myriad industrial uses for hemp products. Nationwide decriminalization has long since been in order.
- End the extreme economic inequality that plagues the world. This entails establishing a regime of true social democracy, and burying the snake oil of supply side economics. Just because there is much work to do in this area doesn’t mean that work shouldn’t start posthaste. It’s time to relegate the misguidance of Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, and Jean-Baptiste Say to the dustbin of history where it belongs.
- De-gaslight the white population. The societal myths sustaining the notion of white privilege didn’t grow naturally—they had a lot of help from their friends. Millions of dollars are poured in constantly to sustain broadcast operations, think tanks, and various publications, the underlying purpose of which is to maintain an artificial unbalance of power in public opinion. Until the myths of these well resourced outlets are fully refuted, all the difficult conversations in the world will be mostly exercises in Sisyphus rolling a boulder up a hill.
